Dubai Criminal Court fined him AED 500,000 – 5-year prison sentence and deportation for “Abu Sabah” in a money laundering case, and confiscation of 150 million dirhams

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced Indian businessman B.S.S., also known as Abu Sabah, and two other defendants to five years in prison, a Dh500,000 fine, and deportation. The court also ordered the confiscation of Dh150 million in criminal proceeds, as well as computers, phones, and other items, after they were convicted of money laundering through an organized criminal group. The case has been referred to the Court of Appeal for further consideration during the subsequent litigation phase.

The charges against the defendants included possessing or concealing items obtained under circumstances that led to the belief of their illicit origin, as well as the primary charge of money laundering through an organized criminal group. Sentences ranged from five years in prison, a AED 500,000 fine, and deportation for several defendants, while others were sentenced to one year in prison and a AED 200,000 fine.

Dubai Police referred the incident to the Public Prosecution last December, which in turn referred it to the Criminal Court, which began reviewing the case in January of this year and issued its initial ruling yesterday.

The list of defendants included the well-known businessman, as well as individuals and legal entities (companies), accused of establishing and operating a money laundering network through shell companies and suspicious bank transfers. They were arrested following extensive investigations that included financial data and business partnerships with entities inside and outside the country.

Some defendants were convicted in absentia, while others were convicted in court. The rulings also included legal entities, including three companies, each receiving a fine of AED 50 million. The court also ordered the confiscation of assets owned by the defendants, amounting to AED 150 million, confiscation of seized papers, phones, and electronic devices, and the deportation of the convicted defendants from the country.
